The Dubai Relocation Checklist: What to Sort Out Before Moving Day

Relocating in Dubai — whether across town or into the country for the first time — comes with a few extra steps beyond a typical move. This checklist covers the parts people most often forget.

Six Weeks Out

  • Confirm your move date and get a firm quote from your relocation provider.
  • Start a room-by-room inventory, flagging anything fragile, oversized or high-value.
  • If you're relocating between emirates, check whether your new building has move-in restrictions (many towers require booked lift access).

Two Weeks Out

  • Notify DEWA (or your local utility provider) to close or transfer your account.
  • Update your Emirates ID address if required, and forward mail where applicable.
  • Confirm parking and loading access at both the old and new address — Dubai buildings vary widely on this, and it affects how the crew plans the day.

Moving Day

A trained crew will handle the packing, loading and transport, but it helps to:

  • Keep passports, Emirates ID, and any documents you'll need immediately in a bag that travels with you, not the truck.
  • Do a final walkthrough of every room, including balconies and storage cupboards, before the crew leaves.

After the Move

  • Unpack essentials first: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom.
  • Register your new address with your bank, insurer and any subscriptions.
  • If anything needs to go into storage rather than the new place, arrange pickup at the same time as the move — it's more efficient than a second trip.

A relocation provider that also runs storage and handyman services can fold all of this into one coordinated plan instead of three separate bookings.
